Over the weekend, News 8 Austin did a nice little puff piece on Annie's List and State Representative Diana Maldonado (D-52). Throughout the story Reporter Karina King refers to Annie's List as a "nonprofit" that "helps women" in politics, and she includes statements from both Maldonado and Annie's List Deputy Political Director Genevieve Van Cleve.
Of course Annie's List is a political action committee, and serves as the state version of Emily's List, a national PAC devoted to electing pro-abortion Democrat women. According to the News 8 report, the women Annie's List supports will better protect "families, education policies, and the evironment," no mention is made of the more extremist views of Annie's List staff and candidates, and while Van Cleve and company lament the number of women in the Texas House, of course they completely ignore the 21 Republican candidates for 2010 who happen to be women:

Furthermore, while the Genevieve Van Cleve appearing in this story seems very serious and really, genuinely concerned about families, here's the weekend Genevieve, an angry, rabid Liberal. Not exactly the kind of person I trust to protect my family.

Not only is everything posted true, but Annie's List ethical values are questionable. AL sometimes supports democratic women, but not those at the national level. AL is so hypocritical - the Board Chair and Treasurer endorsed Obama over Clinton in the 2008 dem primary. Oh and remember Fred Barron, John Edward's big wig friend? Well the now deceased Mr. Barron gave AL lots of money, and so did many other well off political figures. This little Annie PAC packs a big pink punch. I wonder where the next hit will be?
I am beyond glad to see so many women (of both parties) running for public office--and I will vote for every single one of them if I can. Until we have equal representation at all levels of government, we will continue to be at the mercy of the patriarchy.

I respectfully disagree with your sentiment. I never vote for a candidate simply because she is a woman (or Hispanic, or named 'Holly,' etc.). I choose candidates based on core principles. What does the candidate believe? Also, like most Republican women, I really like men. :-)

Van Cleve's video definitely shows her colors, although I would prefer to see the level of discourse on both sides rise above epithets like "rabid" and "extremist." But.....after watching that video I'm not sure if Van Cleve is interested in open-minded discourse, unless there's a press camera rolling.
Notwithstanding her caustic, offensive style, she actually hits some shortcomings and inconsistencies in our camp. As my pastor says, any old horse knows to eat the hay and spit out the sticks.
Republican leadership at the top of the ticket gets more criticism than they deserve from the Left, but less than they deserve from the Right. Especially given the Declaration principle that civil government's primary purpose is to secure the rights - to life, liberty, and property - of the governed. Most of local/state/fed govt activity today is not only divergent from that purpose, it is downright antagonistic toward it, and both parties are falling short.
