A Call To Arms: 2nd Amendment Saturday in Williamson County

It's no secret that our 2nd Amendment is under assault (and apparently some public schools are willing to teach blatant falsehoods about our Constitutional right to bear arms.)  Here in Williamson County we prefer to uphold the Constitution and stuff, so on Saturday, October 12, the Williamson County Republican Party and the Best of the West Shooting Range are sponsoring the first annual "2nd Amendment Saturday."

Here's the scoop from the Wilco GOP:
Shooting events for every skill level. Come out and try Cowboy Shooting, International Practical and International Defensive shooting. Go through the shooting portion of the CHL course. Conventional rifle, pistol, trap ranges with instructors on hand for the novices. and much, much, more.

In addition, there will be a long range shooting demonstration, and vendors with the latest technology, door prizes, and other activities.

Featuring the author of our Concealed Carry Law Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, Congressman John Carter, Railroad Commissioner Barry Smitherman, and others.

So, come on out, get your picture taken with the people defending your 2nd amendment rights. Try out the various shooting styles, and perhaps become a member.

A special thanks to our sponsors:

Gold Sponsors:
Congressman John Carter, US House District 31
Constable Robert Chody, Williamson County Pct. 1

Silver Sponsor
Barry Smitherman for Attorney General

Bronze Sponsors
Representative Tony Dale
Representative Marsha Farney
Representative Larry D. Gonzales
Commissioner Cynthia Long
Justice of the Peace Dain Johnson
District Judge Billy Ray Stubblefield

Get Out the Vote Rally With Tony and Ted

This Thursday, October 25, U.S. Senate nominee Ted Cruz will join State Representative nominee Tony Dale at the Cedar Park branch of the Williamson County Republican Party Headquarters for a Get Out The Vote rally.  The event will be from 4:30 to 5:45 pm, and attendees will have a chance to meet Ted Cruz, Tony Dale, and many of the other Republicans on the November 2012 ballot.

If you need to get up to speed on the Senate race, a great source on Ted Cruz is Lawrence Person's Battleswarm Blog.

Tony Dale is the popular Cedar Park City Councilman and longtime activist who handily won the primary contest for Texas House District 136.  Both Matt Stillwell and Matt Whittington, the Democrat and Libertarian candidates, have suggested raising the state gas tax, which is now coming to be known as the "Matt Tax."   Dale has a solid fiscally conservative record on the Cedar Park Council.

The Williamson County Republican Party HQ-Cedar Park is located at Railyard Shopping, 601 Whitestone Blvd, Suite 218, Cedar Park, TX.

Hope to see you there!

Williamson County Republican Convention

With all the federal meddling in Texas' ability to conduct primary elections, the convention process has had to be re-worked.  Rather than holding precinct conventions immediately following the Primary Election (which won't take place until May 29,) most areas are moving directly to county or senatorial conventions.

The Williamson County Republican Party will hold a county convention on Saturday, April 14 at the Taylor Main Street Campus.  (Old High School, 3101 North Main, Taylor, TX 76574)

Without the usual precinct conventions, the State Republican Executive Committee passed emergency rules regarding eligibility.  If you are a registered voter in the county, you may fill out an "Oath of Affiliation" with the Republican Party.  You can find the oath and more details on both the county and state conventions at the WCRP website:  http://www.williamsoncountygop.org/2012/03/2012-county-convention/#more-1899

Since the County Convention will take place prior to the Primary Election, my guess is most of the GOP candidates will be on hand for some 'heated' fellowship.

Doug Arnold for Williamson County Court At Law

While I've spent much time discussing Texas House races, there are some very important Judicial contests on the 2010 ballot. One of those is for Williamson County Court at Law #3. Doug Arnold, the GOP nominee, is exceptionally qualified. He has 15 years experience as an attorney for various government entities, has published articles regarding legal issues, and has served as an instructor. Williamson County residents are fortunate to have such a stellar candidate for the local bench.

One almost hesitates to even mention Doug Arnold's opponent in this race, as she exemplifies the utter lack of electable Democrats in the area. Since her arrest last Summer, she has barely attempted a campaign; her only tactic seems to be placing campaign signs next to Republicans in hopes that voters will be confused about her political affiliation.

You can meet Doug Arnold at a special reception on Thursday, October 14. The event will take place from 5pm-7pm at the Independent Bank Meeting Room at 1503 Rivery Blvd, in Georgetown.

Other important Judicial candidates include some really strong Republican Women: Judge Debra Lehrmann for Texas Supreme Court, Melissa Goodwin for the Texas Third Court of Appeals, and Judge Suzanne Brooks for Williamson County Court at Law #1.

Governor Perry Coming to Round Rock

Governor Rick Perry will be coming to Round Rock for a campaign stop and to help support our local candidates next Thursday, October 14 at 2:45PM. Perry's opponent, Bill White for Taxes appeared here last week, but judging by pictures from the event it looks like only about 50 folks showed up.

The stop will be at Junior's Icehouse on Main Street, but I'm really hoping the Williamson County Republican Party will provide some of those yummy hometown Round Rock Donuts.  Mmmmmmm, donuts.

Date: Thursday, October 14th

Location: Juniors Icehouse
119 East Main Street, Round Rock, TX, 78664

Sharron Angle Coming to Wilco

Sharon Angle, Republican Nominee to replace Dirty Harry Reid in the U.S. Senate, has chosen Williamson County to host her visit to central Texas on Friday, August 20th! Two events are planned: first a fundraising reception where guests can meet Sharon and have a photo with her at 5pm. The second is a more casual grassroots rally at the Georgetown Community Center in San Gabriel Park at 7pm.
Find out why Harry Reid and the Left think Sharron Angle is a "DANGEROUS RADICAL!" More details to follow...

Today is an Election Day!

Today is Election Day in Texas for municipal and school board elections, and in many areas there are ballot measures regarding taxes, bonds, and other issues. These elections have some of the lowest voter turnout percentages, and many will be determined by a mere handful of votes.

Polls will be open until 7pm, and as with any election, you may only vote at your assigned precinct location on Election Day. You can usually look up this information on your county website; here is the list of locations for Williamson County.

There are elections all over Williamson County; I've blogged about the Round Rock Independent School District Board and Cedar Park City Council races, but there are various MUD and ESD elections as well.

The Williamson County Republican Party has an open thread going for the day; check it throughout the day for developments and local opinion.

Lots of good folks fought and died for your right to vote, now get out there and exercise your civic duty!
